Accountability
as a public servant is my passion. Not in my wildest dreams as a young teen arriving
from the Philippines in 1981 could I foresee this desire to serve our State of Hawaii as a legislator. America
truly is a land of opportunity.
I
was born in the Philippines in 1966 and became a naturalized citizen in 1986. Immediately
upon graduation from Kailua High School
in 1985 I went to enroll at Hawaii Business College where I graduated of Travel Industry Operations.
In 1988, I opened my own travel agency. While operating the business I
also taught geography, reservation and ticketing at Hawaii Business College for three years. My wife learned the travel agency business
and she now runs the daily operations.
The travel industry is my first area of expertise.
To learn the industry I traveled extensively throughout the mainland United States and the globe. I developed a keen interest in the economic stability of Hawaii in relation to the national and international markets. Business experience and knowledge
in the travel industry blessed me with wisdom in serving others for the benefit of Hawaii.
I continued self-educating by working towards
a management degree at Leeward Community College. While a student, then Governor Benjamin Cayetano's office hired me on staff. I enlisted in the U.S. Navy reserves that same year in 1997. Since then, after six years of public service
in the executive branch and two years in the House of Representatives, I have gained critical insight into the making and
execution of legislation for the public good. I continue to serve our country in the US Navy reserves.
Good business sense in combination with eight
years of public service at the State Capitol has now brought me to this decision point. I want to serve you as your
public servant in the 42nd District (Ewa, portion of Ewa Beach, West Loch Fairways, Fernandez Village, Honouliuli,
portion of Waipahu, Varona Village).
A framed quote by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt sits at my desk. On February 1943, he signed the Executive Order that created the 442nd
Regimental Combat Team, the only All-Japanese Unit during World War II. He declared,
"The principle on which this country was founded and by which it has always been governed is that Americanism
is a matter of mind and heart; American is not, and never was, a matter of race or ancestry."
I am proud to be a Filipino-American. I,
Genaro Q. Bimbo, would be proud to serve you. Please consider casting your vote on primary election on September 18, 2004, for me as your public servant.
